Student Quotes

Here are some funny student quotes that I've gotten the pleasure to experience this past week:

"I have never wear a breast." = I have never worn a bra. {said by a boy}

"We cook in the chicken." = We cook in the kitchen.
~~~
Student A: "Why don't you add me on Facebook, but you did 'Student B'?"
Student B: "Because she loves me."
{a girl giggles in the background}
{my thoughts: Did that really just come out of his mouth?}
Me: "I haven't been on in a while, I'll add you soon." {ignore Student B's comment}
Well, there you have it,
there's never a dull moment in the classroom.
They always keep me on my toes!
{How many English idioms can you find in the above statement?}
Look! I'm an artist!
This past weekend I went to some art classes.
Saturday: paper-making
Sunday: book-binding
I had so much fun drinking tea with some girls
and getting crafty.
It was a rainy weekend, so it was nice to be
inside in a dirty art studio
with lots and lots of paper!
Here are my finished products:
two journals; one hardback, the other soft,
with some of my very own handmade paper!
I couldn't resist photographing the peonies I "illegally" picked
two weekends ago in Cesky Krumlov
while horseback riding on a stormy afternoon.
I'm slightly obsessed with these flowers...
I {heart} cherries!
On the metro yesterday an older man sat down with a bucketful of cherries.
His trim white beard and his clean shirt
stood out from his work pants and rubber boots.
I wondered if he picked all those cherries himself...
source
I gave him a giddy smile, and he looked away.
But later, he looked at me again,
with a knowing, stern glance that I wanted his cherries.
I already had my own bag from the Vietnamese produce stand,
but his bucketful looked enticing.
source
I must be obsessed with cherries.
I now have a bowl full in my fridge.
And on the metro I gave the old man another ridiculous
grin as I exited at my stop.
source
As I taught my students the English idiom,
"You made my day,"
the old man with his cherries certainly
made my day.
Have a lovely weekend!
I'll be outside at markets and music festivals
and inside at art classes and Sunday brunch.
Ads in Europe are appalling
So I know that Europe is pretty free-spirited, but I'm getting tired of seeing ads like these everywhere I look.
On the tram, on the metro, on billboards, in store windows, on magazine covers,
Europe is bombarded with sexual images.
I've gotten into the habit of sitting as far away from the metro doors as possible
so I don't have to see all the clubs advertising with sex.
Luckily,
I like to read, so I'm usually absorbed in my book
while traveling from school to tutoring to home
and repeat.
So, I guess these phones are twice as good as other phones?
What kind of woman would pose for this!
Let me sell some jewelry with my legs open..
so degrading.
Czech calendar
And these, let me tell you, are Czech politicians who posed last year for a risque calendar.
 Did they think their ratings would go up after the publication of this calendar?
If this was done in the U.S., they would never be voted for again.
At least I would hope not.
Okay, Europe,
let's just feed into the stereotype of women being seen as sex symbols only.
Sorry for the rant today,
but this issue really angers me,
especially when women believe it and allow it to happen
and men continue to fund the industries
and children grow up with warped ideas about
gender and sex and their worth as people.
Okay, ok, I'll stop now.
Pray for the Czech Republic
This video is from here. It's an incredible website that advocates prayer for the world.
Join us and pray for the Czech Republic.
This country has believed in so many lies over the centuries,
they have such a rich Christian history
before the 30 Years War.
Yet they are open to hearing Truth.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers,
especially the youth who are bombarded
with corruption and apathy from the older generations.
God is sovereign. over all. period.
I have to remind myself of this sometimes.
"since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him."
~Romans 1:19-21a
Art and the City
Guess what I'm doing in two weeks time!
I finally get to get down and dirty!
Two art classes, back to back,
making my own journals
and making handmade paper.
I'm so excited for this little art outlet.
I really can't wait to attempt at being creative.
Maybe in the fall I'll try the ceramics class.
:)
Prague really does have so much to offer!
